Hashers and Harriettes,

It has finally cum around, our chance to make an impact on one of the parks we run through.  As some of you know I have somewhat adopted Yosemite Marsh in McLaren Park as the SFH3's favorite place to volunteer.  The Marsh has a work day on the second Saturday of all even numbered months.  You half-minds don't have to count or anything, it is this Month.  Saturday April 12, 2014, the work begins at 10:00AM but it would be wonderful to see all of you hashers at 9:30AM for instruction on the use of the dangerous tools we will use, clippers, loppers, shovels, picks and spades.  The major objective will be to finally cut down and uproot the invasive and dastardly Himalayan Blackberries.  It is possible that we can actually finish this task which has been ongoing for many years.  There may be other projects available at the site.  On a previous workday the volunteers planted over 120 Douglas Irises, most of which are thriving and may even be in bloom on the 12th.

The workday is planned rain or shine, but will be cancelled / postponed if conditions are severe.  The soils (mud) involved and the slopes we will be working on require reasonably dry conditions.  As I mentioned, much of the work will involve Blackberry bushes, therefore please wear closed sturdy shoes, long sleeves and pants and dress in layers.  If you have your own heavy work gloves, bring them.  The gloves provided by SF Rec and Park are adequate at best.

Now the good news.  This event is an official Hand Pump sponsored event, this means there will be BEER.  The SF Rec and Park folks would like to know how many volunteers are cuming in order that they will have sufficient tools and gloves.  I would like to know in order that we have enough BEER.  If possible, reply to this e-mail or contact me through my info from the Mismanagement Page of the SFH3 website.

Thank You in advance and ON-ON
